UNIVERSITY OF MUMBAI WINS NATIONAL OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP  

The University of Mumbai had participated in the National Level Cultural competitions organised by the Association of Indian Universities, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, New Delhi hosted by the Vidyasagar University, Medinepore, West Bengal between 19th and 24th January 2009.

 

The responsibility to maintain the Overall Championship with the university was very big. In spite of all odds the university fought to retain the overall championships trophy.

 

Apart from the overall championship the university also bagged the overall thophy in Music Events and Literary Arts

 

University of Mumbai had qualified in 10 events at the West Zonal level competitions held at Sardar Vallabhai Patel University, Anand, Gujrat where the university emerged as the overall champion continuously for 24th time a record in itself. For the National level the other universities like Punjab University, Chandigarh came with 22 events and Banaras Hindu University, Benaras had 17 events and many more universities had more events than that of University of Mumbai.

 

University of Mumbai Participated in events like Indian Group Song, Western Group Song, classical Instrumental Purcussion, Folk Orchestra, classical Dance, Debate, Quiz, Clay Modelling, Installation and Skit.

 

The army of the 32 students from Bhavans College, Viva College, Ramnarain Ruia College, Department of Poltical Science, Department of Music, Pendharkar College, Dombivili, M.L Dahanukar College, J J school of Arts, J J institute of Applied arts, Gogte College, Ratnagiri, Arts Science College Deorukh, vartak college and Gonsalio Garcia College Vasai, Father Agnel Engineering college, Vashi, SIES College Sion (W) fought very bravely for the events and had got the laurels to the university.

 

The Team Managers Mr. Nilesh Sawe and Ms. Nirmala Patil left no stone unturned to win the overall championship. Prof Sunil Patil of CKT College Panvel also was a great support to the team.

 

The directors appointed to train the students for the events were basically pass students of the University who were some years ago a part of the National team.

 

The Vice Chancellor Dr. Vijay Khole, Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. A.D Sawant, Registrar, Principal Venkatramani congratulated the Director Students Welfare Mr. Mrudul Nile and the entire team for the great success of the university.

The university scored 66 points and Punjab University stood second with 61 points.The team was felicitated at the Republic Day function at the Kalina Campus, University of Mumbai.
