(MU-BARC) COLLABORATIVE Ph.D. SCHEME IN PHYSICS

(Academic Year 2008 - 2009)

The research facilities are offered in various frontier areas such as nuclear physics with accelerators; accelerator physics; solid state physics using neutrons, X-rays and lasers; theoretical physics; laser based atomic and molecular spectroscopy etc. at BARC under the collaborative scheme between Mumbai University and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. BARC operates the 100 MW Dhruva reactor and 14 MV Pelletron accelerator for research in solid state and nuclear physics, respectively. Several laser-based equipments are available to carry out front-line spectroscopic work on gases, liquids and solids. This research programme will lead to Ph.D. degree in Physics 0f Mumbai University and is open to only those candidates who have obtained M.Sc. Degree in Physics with 60% or more marks from University of Mumbai. The selection will be on the basis of an interview, which is likely to be held in October 2008. The exact date of interview will be displayed on the Notice Board of the Department of Physics later. The selected candidates will receive a stipend of Rs.10,000/- per month (JRF) which will be raised to Rs.12,000/- per month (SRF) if the performance during the first two years is found satisfactory.

The application forms can be downloaded from the Mumbai University website http://archive.mu.ac.in The last date for submission of completed applications forms to the Head, Department of Physics is September 10, 2008.
